3 Easy-Steps for Keeping Your Pet Safe in Emergencies from Tristate CART
- Prepare: Food and water - 3 day supply, pet medications & medical records in waterproof container, pet first aid kit, collar, harness or leash with ID tag, crate or other pet carrier and sanitation items: litter, paper towels, trash bags, newspapers, bleach. - Plan:
- Create a plan to get away and where you will go.
- Develop a buddy system to care for your pets if you are unable to and determine a meeting spot.
- Talk to your veterinarian to keep contact info up to date in recovery database,
- Compile contact information: vet hospitals and places you may take shelter with pets.
- Obtain "Pets Inside" stickers and place on doors and windows. (The ASPCA offers them online)
- Learn how to properly crate a dog in an emergency.
